How it works
Understanding your apartment's sunlight
Apricity shows you the real sun moving over the real buildings around your future home — so you can see, not just hope, how much light it gets. Here's how to read it.
What you're looking at
The tool plays out a full day from above. The sun travels across the sky, the buildings around yours throw shadows that move with it, and you can watch exactly when light reaches your apartment — on your floor, at the time of year you choose.
How we know
Real sun, real place
We work out the sun's actual position for this location and time of year. It's astronomy, not a guess.
Real neighbours
The buildings around yours cast real shadows, and taller ones block more light. We account for their height.
Across the seasons
The winter sun sits low and the summer sun rides high, so light changes through the year. You can switch between seasons.
Reading your apartment
Tap any apartment and you'll see three things. Together they tell you how bright it is, and when.
A simple grade for how sunny the apartment is over a full day. Higher means more direct sun; lower means more time in shade.
How many hours of direct sun the apartment gets, and when — a kitchen that catches breakfast light, or a balcony that warms up in the afternoon.
At the exact moment shown on the time slider, whether the apartment is lit or in shade right then.
Try it yourself
Drag the time slider, or press play, to watch a whole day go by. Switch the season to see winter's low sun versus summer's high one. And pick your floor — higher floors often rise clear of the shadows cast by the buildings nearby.
Comparing a few apartments
Deciding between a few homes? Select them and save them as a named shortlist — say, the three you're weighing up. You (or your agent) can then compare their sunlight side by side and come back to them later. The shortlist stays in your browser.
Good to know
This shows direct sunlight and the buildings that shape it — the biggest factors in how bright a home feels. Real life also has clouds, curtains and the odd tree, which we don't model. But the sun and your neighbours are what really decide the light, and that's exactly what you're seeing.
